We celebrated the 70th Anniversary of Wonder Woman with a very special guest-of-honor.

Moulton "Pete" Marston, son of Wonder Woman creator William Moulton Marston, enjoyed our displays, conversation,
and shared his memories of (as a 14-year-old boy) watching his father create and develop Wonder Woman

“In Search of Wonder Woman”
Impressions of the 3rd Annual ComicConn, Trumball CT
Saturday August 18, 2012
by Stephen Lanzilla, Boston Area Toy Collectors Club

Drawn by news of a vibrant cos-play contingent, Dave Campbell and I set out on a Saturday morning for a straight-line drive down I-95 to the Marriott Hotel in Trumball, CT. We where in search of WONDER WOMAN.

Bexx Fine poses in front of the banner outside the hotel.

We had plenty of drive time to discuss what we might encounter. ComicConn is principally billed as a true comic show. No celebrities as a draw. Also this was their first time at this location. 2011 they has their second show down the road in Stamford, CT and had a hurricane to visit. This is a one day show; all or nothing. I had spoken with Mitch Hallock, the co-founder and President of the show earlier and he thought attendance would/could be in the low thousands. It rained almost the entire trip down I-95 as I wondered who we might meet. Maybe WONDER WOMAN and some other cos-play candidates for our National Event on September 21, 2012.
When we arrived we were unprepared for what we saw. Four Trumball Police cars were parked in front of the hotel entrance along with a sea of humanity in every direction. There was no place to even park as cars where everywhere, spilling into area businesses and more. It turned out that the police presence was sprung upon the show due to the massive influx in attendance. Long lines were under control and this spot of geography was actually sunny. (The anticipated Batmobiles and Green Hornet’s Black Beauty cancelled at the last moment due to heavy rain to the south of us in New Jersey.)
Yes, we did meet and interview two WONDER WOMAN candidates and a host of other great people. Just look at these photos!

Club Members Ted and Randy set out to shop. Ted thought the dealer prices were a bit higher than those up Boston way, but the selections were really good. Randy bought too.

Jim Talbot, Co- Producer of “The Boston Comic Con” was set up as a dealer and was blown away by the enthusiastic attendance. It was his first experience here too. Steve Perry, fellow club member and Promoter of the First Rhode Island Comic Con (Nov 3rd and 4th, 2012) came down to see this show for the first time and was equally blown away.  John DiCicco, Co-Promoter of the Boston (Framingham) Super-Mega Fest, told me after the show that he had heard nothing but wild numbers and exciting stories from people who made the journey.

The show floor was very well attended.

When reached by phone on Wednesday, August 29, Mitch Hallock confirmed that he was already exploring alternate sites for his 4th annual show in 2013. We strongly recommend anyone interested in the ongoing comic world to check out this event in 2013 whether or not WONDER WOMAN (now celebrating her 70th Anniversary,) is in the cards.
